Russia marking Internet Day Numerous users of Runet, the Russian-language segment of the worldwide web, are marking the Internet Day on Wednesday, September 30. The date is not an officially registered professional or public event yet and it is largely the product of a public initiative, which quite well falls in line with the Internet’s highly democratic spirit.

Deux légendes vivantes des échecs, les Russes Garry Kasparov et Anatoli Karpov, se retrouvent à partir de mardi à Valence autour d'un échiquier pour un nouveau duel de quatre jours et 12 parties, un quart de siècle après leur premier face-à-face d'anthologie. Lors de ce duel mythique qui s'était étalé sur cinq mois, de septembre 1984 à février 1985, celui qui était alors champion du monde des échecs -Karpov- et son jeune challenger de 21 ans -Kasparov- n'avaient pas réussi à se départager.

According to the author’s conclusions, the oligarch structures have established a practically total control over the Russian economy, and the disastrous situation of the industry was mostly artificially created.

By Vyacheslav Samoshkin One of the remarcabile events of the last week was the open letter adressed by Dmitry Medvedev to Viktor Iushchenko, in which the Russian president accused his Ukrainian counterpart of impairing bilateral relations and promoting anti-Russian politics, this way announcing that Moscow is delaying the arrival to Kyev of its new ambassador, Mihail Zurabov.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has visited for the first time the city of Novorossiisk, where the future stationery base for the Russian Fleet in The Black Sea is being disposed. Russian political annalists have seen in this travel Russia’s desire to show that the Southern direction, especially in the period after the war in Georgia, is to stay in the focus of the Russian administration. As Aleksey Malasehnko’ at the Carnegie Center in Moscow puts it, the Russian leader visited the area where the “Nabucco” international pipeline should pass – the competitor of the Russian project “South Stream”, this way emphasizing that “Russia remains the master in this region”.
