NATO_UcrainaThe Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has offered to stop for the next three years attempts to speed up attempts to join NATO, Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Chaly said at round-table discussions on Tuesday.

The top diplomat believes that “no revolutionary steps must be made with the coming to power of the new president (Viktor Yanukovich) and his team”.

UniuneVamalaViktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's president-elect, is prepared to initiate talks on the country's entry into the Customs Union with Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, a Russian business daily reported on Wednesday.

Ukraine's possible participation in the Customs Union was criticized on Tuesday by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Yanukovych's rival in the February 7 presidential runoff, at a meeting with members of parliament from the Our Ukraine party of outgoing President Viktor Yushchenko, Kommersant said.
